Spring Sales Conclude on High Note
By all accounts the spring sale season was a very good
one for TLA members. The Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth,
the Solid Foundations Sale in Houston, and the Texas
Best Sale in Decatur all posted significant improvements
from the previous year’s sales. Favorable market
conditions, along with quality consignments were
contributing factors. Also to be commended are the sale
managers and consultants who worked on the sales.
It is not too early to start preparing for fall sales.
Recently completed sales prove that planning pays.
Cattle in good flesh, properly presented with current
pedigrees continue to receive a bonus. When you break
the sale down, homozygous tests and the use of A.I. in
the cattle sold paid dividends. The individual highs are
listed in the sale reports. Here is a breakdown of the
recent bull sales by the following categories:
Homozygous black, homozygous polled bulls averaged
$2,700; homozygous black bulls averaged $2,200;
homozygous polled, black bulls averaged $2,017; black
and polled bulls averaged $2,014; and red bulls averaged
$1,450. Females saw similar preferences for the black
and polled traits.
The next TLA sale is the Heart of Texas Fall Sale in
West, Texas on October 18. Watch for details in upcoming
TLA News issues and start getting those cattle ready
early.
