Karen Ann (Sacco) Stolte
Karen Ann (Sacco) Stolte passed from this life on April
15, 2010 at the age of 53. She is survived by her
husband J.C. of New Braunfels, daughter Crystal S.
Stolte of Houston, and son James C. “Trey” Stolte III,
of Lubbock; parents Rose Marie and Charles Sacco of
Houston; sisters Kaylynn Carpenter and husband Phil of
Houston, Theresa Dinges and husband Ronnie of Sugarland,
Lisa Walker and husband Raymond of Houston, and Sandy
Harding and husband Kyle of Houston; brother Charles
Sacco Jr. and wife Lori of Katy; father-in-law and
mother-in-law James and Leola Stolte of New Braunfels;
brother-in-laws Steve Stolte and wife Carrie of Dallas,
and Mike Stolte and wife Elaine of Bellaire; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Karen was born July 1, 1956 in Houston, Texas and
graduated from the University of Houston in December
1979 with a degree in Accounting. While in high school,
Karen demonstrated her skill as a great business woman
by competing on both the state and national levels in
accounting via her Vocational Office Education classes,
winning third in state. She paid her way through college
while working at Exxon Corporation. In April 1977 while
going to college, Karen met the love of her life, her
husband J.C. when she used that pickup line “didn’t I
see you at Todd’s earlier tonight.” That began a 2-1/2
year courtship in which J.C. proposed to his forever
Valentine on Valentine’s Day, 1979. On August 18, 1979
they were married in Houston, Texas.
In May 1981, her husband’s career moved them to Tulsa,
Oklahoma were they both worked in the oil & gas
industry. In 1983, J.C. convinced Karen they should move
to his hometown of New Braunfels where she helped him
start up the Offices of J.C. Stolte, CPA. On May 11,
1984, they were blessed with their daughter, Crystal.
Karen met J.C. and her parents outside the delivery room
with these words to J.C.: “it is not what you expected.”
On January 5, 1989, they were again blessed with their
son, Trey, when Dr. Reeves said “we have a male Stolte.”
In 1992, she was hired away from her husband’s business
by one of their clients, Hill Country Restaurants, Inc.,
the owners of the Clear Springs Restaurants and Grill
River Grill, where Karen was currently employed. During
the almost 18 years of her employment as the controller,
she helped grow the business from three restaurants to
the current seven restaurants.
Karen was proud of her daughter as she danced with
Hermann Sons, and competed in livestock shows with the
calves they raised, on the local, state and national
level. She attended every cross country event her
daughter ran in during her four years of high school,
where Crystal’s team placed second in state her freshman
year.
Karen was always there for her son and by his side while
he had asthma attacks that hospitalized him for a week
each year for several years during his youth. In spite
of this, Trey competed in youth soccer and basketball,
competed in livestock shows on the local, state and
national level. In 2005, Trey raised and showed the
Reserve Champion Limousin steer at the San Antonio
Livestock Show. Trey continued playing basketball in
junior high and high school; where he was on varsity his
last three years in high school. Karen also attended
every cross country event during Trey’s four years in
high school, where his team placed 6th in state his
senior year.
Karen was able to watch her daughter Crystal graduate
from college with a Master’s degree and then go on to
become a school teacher. She helped her son Trey plan
his college courses where he is currently a junior at
Texas Tech University majoring in finance with an
emphasis in real estate.
After moving to New Braunfels, Karen joined Sts. Peter
and Paul Catholic Church, Hermann Sons, and the local
Beta Sigma Phi sorority where she made numerous lasting
friendships. She was a member of the Xi Epsilon Omega
chapter. Karen also taught CCD at the church. This big
city girl became country. While she and J.C. were
dating, she learned to country western dance and could
do the country swing with the best of them. Her favorite
country and western songs were “Amarillo by Morning” and
“You Look So Good in Love.”
She was greatly loved and will be missed by all.
Funeral service was Monday April 19, 2010 at Sts. Peter
and Paul Catholic Church with entombment at Sts. Peter
and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and gifts,
donations can be made to the Susan G Komen for the Cure
Foundation, or Southwest Cancer Association,

Preparing for Spring Sales
The past year has been challenging to say the least, the
drought and recession has made it difficult to maintain
a healthy bottom line. Now more than ever it is
important to control input costs, and have a marketing
plan in advance of your breeding plan. Mating decisions
should be based on the demand for the resulting
offspring they produce. Our recent bull sales indicate
customers are selecting homozygous black, homozygous
polled bulls that are thick-ended with above average
performance—thick-ended with good performance being the
most important.
Success whether in the show ring or sale ring is
dependent on several factors—selection, preparation,
presentation and management are just a few. When
selecting animals for a sale, keep in mind confirmation,
pedigrees, age, performance, breeding status, etc. It is
also critical to match the type of cattle to what the
market is demanding in a given area (i.e. homozygous
black, homozygous polled, fullblood, polled fullblood,
etc). Remember that the cattle you consign to a sale are
a reflection of what you have at home and can leave a
positive or negative impression of your program.
Preparation begins with the paperwork. Once you have
selected the animals you wish to sell make sure the
registration certificates are in order and that birth,
weaning and yearling weights are on the NALF performance
sheets and all pertinent data is provided to sale
management in a timely manner. This will ensure
inclusion of all the information in the catalog. Good
photographs can be beneficial, a bad photograph is worse
than none. We will be happy to assist in obtaining
photos of your consignments if you will contact the
office in advance of catalog publication.
Proper presentation is critical as consignments must be
pleasing to the eye. Thin cattle, no matter the pedigree
or type will not sell as well as cattle in good flesh.
Depending on body condition scores, it is wise to
consider supplemental feeding in advance of sale date.
Clipping of the face, tail and top line will improve
appearance. Placing farm signs or stall cards with
pertinent data on your pens will draw attention to your
cattle and conveys a sense of pride in your program.
Sale management will distribute catalogs and place
advertisements to encourage attendance. Consignors can
help by contacting their customers, make sure they have
received a catalog and invite them to the sale.
It is recommended that consignors be available the day
of and the day before sale to meet prospective customers
and discuss their consignments.
One of the most important functions of the Texas
Limousin Association is to provide a venue for its
members to market their cattle. If you are interested in
consigning to an upcoming TLA sale or if we can be of
help in any way please contact the TLA office.

December 2, 2009
Call to order and Roll call:
Meeting was called to order at 1:05 pm by President Brad
Davis.
Members present were, Brad Davis, Wayne Baber, Lyle
Keeton, J.R. Brady, Brian Payne, Johnny Smith, Marcy
Perrin, and TLA Executive Secretary Ralph Hawkins.
Reading of the Minutes:
Minutes for the previous TLA Board meeting were not
available.
Financial Report:
Ralph Hawkins presented the financial report and Brian
Payne reviewed the status of the investment accounts.
Johnny Smith moved to accept the Financials as reported.
Wayne Baber seconded the motion. Board voted all for
report as presented.
Review of 2009 Shows, Sales, Field Day National Show,
etc:
Sales - Discussion items:
• Decatur facility lacks good area for displaying
cattle. Discussed possibility of using a tent at the
Decatur facility, or possibly looking for another
location within the same area. Also, discussed providing
our own labor to offset the increased cost of labor
provided. No action taken.
• Enforcement of consignment rules for minimum standards
has not always been consistent. Suggestions made to
provide a copy of the rules in each sale mailing, and to
consistently sift animals that expressly do not meet
requirements. No action taken.
• A lengthy discussion of where the TLA stands regarding
showing Purebred and Lim-Flex together resulted in the
consensus that the TLA totally supports showing and
promotion of both Lim-Flex and Purebred Limousin in that
they are shown separately in their own distinct groups.
The discussion also included adding Lim-Flex to the
Shootout show at Field day. Johnny Smith moved to
include Lim-flex (all purple paper registrations) in the
Shootout show. J.R. Brady seconded the motion. The Board
voted 7 against, 1 for the motion. The motion did not
pass.
Field Day - Discussion items:
• Brian Payne presented TJLA survey results regarding
Field Day activities. Items favored were, a dance
following the banquet, and the elimination of bingo.
• The 2010 location for Field Day will remain in Bryan
as approved by the executive committee.
• Clarification was made regarding the age limit for
showing cow/calf pairs. Wayne Baber moved to remove age
limit for cow/calf pairs to show. Lyle Keeton seconded
the motion. Board voted all for removing age limit for
cow/calf pairs to show.
• Brian Payne moved to add a separate Lim-Flex bull show
to Field Day. Lyle Keeton seconded the motion. The board
voted all to add a separate Lim-Flex bull show.
• TJLA officers who were no longer in High school are
not as able to participate as needed in board meetings
and decision making. It was the consensus of the TJLA
board to require that officers be in High school in
order to be elected to an officer position. Wayne Baber
moved to allow the TJLA to set their own requirements
for selecting officers. Johnny Smith seconded the
motion. Board voted all for allowing TJLA to set their
own requirements for selecting officers.
• Shootout committee will be Lyle Keeton and Brian
Payne. Discussion items were: Anyone who purchases a
Shootout heifer can show in the Shootout, adult or
junior; Publish payout percentages; require entry
deadline as with other shows; include Shootout packet at
sales where Shootout heifers are sold.
TLA Banquet: Discussion items:
• The 2010 location will remain the same at the Radisson
Fossil Creek. TLA room rate $99. Reservations to be made
by December 28.
• Directors should contact their region members to
encourage their attendance at the Annual banquet and
membership meeting.
• The benefit auction committee will be headed by Marcy
Perrin. Vicki Brehm will be asked to assist.
• Confirmation of the 2011 location will need to be
looked at early due to possible conflict with Super Bowl
weekend in Arlington, Texas that year.
TLA Bylaw changes:
• Wayne Baber presented updates made to by-laws. Changes
were made to outdated text and to bring the by-laws into
compliance with the current day functioning of the
association. Lyle Keeton moved to accept changes as
presented. Johnny Smith seconded the motion. Board voted
all for accepting by-law changes.

directors as put forth in the By-Law changes.

TLA Meetings to set course for future growth
The annual membership meeting of the Texas Limousin
Association will be held at 3:00 p.m. January 29 at the
Radisson Fossil Creek. Items of discussion will include
financial condition of the association, board of
director elections, and an open discussion of “where do
we go from here?” Certainly the past year has been a
challenge for our industry in general and our breed in
particular. As reported in a recent association
commentary by NALF executive vice president Bob Hough
our breed has slipped from third in terms of
registrations to eighth. Please make plans to attend to
help determine the cause and the cure.

Spring Sale season right around the corner
The spring sale season will be here before you know it.
It’s not too soon to be making those decisions on which
animals are candidates. Make sure registrations are in
order especially on the calves that sell at the side of
dams in order for calf EPDs to be in catalog. It’s also
a good idea to make sure all the weaning and yearling
weights along with scan data is on the animals
performance records at NALF. Entry deadline for the
Solid Foundations Sale in Houston is January 15, entry
deadline for the Texas Best in Decatur is March 1.

following committee chairs:
• Awards: Amber Parkinson
• Decorations: Johnny & Alyssa Smith

everyone, but I don’t remember all of you! Lyle

perfect! Thanks for the little things, like the

that’s always done but we were so very thankful.
You really made that easy! We really enjoyed
ourselves and the prizes were awesome!

2010 in the West Arena of the Richardson-Bass building
on the Fort Worth Stock Show grounds. This new location
